Introduction to

Mental Health

Take a minute to understand the brain and nervous system

Stress is a significant health factor in the U.S.  Anxiety, depression, and social isolation runs rampant in the U.S.  The level of trauma experienced in this country is unknown and rarely confronted.  Despite our ignoring the significance of mental health by failing to prioritize it as a full-blown public health crisis, our body's continue to respond negatively to the dominating power that poor mental health has on our ability to function.  Watch the videos below on great books that explain the unforgivable/unforgettable impact trauma has on our bodies and how we might begin to address it.  Mental health impacts how we observe the world around us and respond to it.

In his book, The Body Keeps the Score, Dr. Bessel van der Kolk proves based on research that trauma never leaves the body.  It must be appropriately confronted and resolved, with effective coping mechanism that do not do more damage to the body.  In order to really achieve health and wellness, you need to confront trauma.

In his book, The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle, explains that much of our stress and pressures that prevent us from resolving our trauma and accomplishing our goals are related to our clash with our past and our future.  Focusing on the NOW is the only way to allow ourselves the mental and emotional space to free ourselves from any learned helplessness.  Health and wellness requires going beyond just the physical with diet and exercise, it requires confronting past, connecting with your present, and dominating your future.
